House Approves Veterans’ Legislation

 

Washington, D.C. – This week, the House of Representatives passed the following veterans’ measures:

 

Monday, March 22, 2010:

 

  • H.R. 4810 – End Veteran Homelessness Act of 2010, to extend the authorization of appropriations for VA comprehensive service programs for homeless veterans through fiscal year 2010. Passed 413-0;
  • H.R. 4667 – Veterans’ Compensation Cost-of-Living Adjustment Act of 2010, would increase, effective as of December 1, 2010, the rates of compensation for veterans with service-connected disabilities, and the rates of dependency and indemnity compensation for the survivors of certain disabled veterans.  Passed 407-0;

 

Tuesday, March 23, 2010:

 

  • H.J. Res. 80 – Recognizing and Honoring the Blinded Veterans Association on its 65th Anniversary of Representing Blinded Veterans and Their Families, Passed 416-0;
  • H.R. 3976--Helping Veterans Keep Their Homes Act of 2009, to extend specified protections for servicemembers relating to mortgages and mortgage foreclosures through 2015. Passed 416-4;
  • H.R. 4592 –Energy Jobs for Veterans Act, to establish a five-year pilot program to award competitive grants to two states to establish and administer a program of payments to energy industry employers who employ in apprenticeship or on-job training veterans entitled to benefits under the veterans' educational assistance program. Limits such payments to 12 months and $20,000 per veteran.  Passed 397-19;

  • H.R. 1879--National Guard Employment Protection Act of 2009, to provide employment and reemployment rights for certain individuals ordered to full-time National Guard duty.  Passed 416-1;

 

Thursday, March 25, 2010

 

  • H.R. 4360 – to designate the Department of Veterans Affairs blind rehabilitation center in Long Beach, California as the “Major Charles R. Soltes, Jr., O.D. Department of Veterans Affairs Blind Rehabilitation Center”.  Passed 417-0.
